Suction fittings
If you need to change a suction fitting grille but you can't find the same model, it may have been withdrawn from the market. Many American manufacturers changed their suction grille designs following the introduction of the VGB Pool and Spa Safety Act in 2008.
To avoid having users become stuck against the pump's suction point, security measures were reinforced. Grilles were made safer by making the holes smaller, and by giving them an anti-vortex system to reduce the risk of entrapment.
These new rules don't necessarily mean that you have to buy and install both a whole new suction fitting, because there are often cheaper and easier solutions. Measure the diameters of the grating and the thread to find a similar sized grating. The sizes can vary by a couple millimeters, or the holes might not be in the right place. In that case you can use waterproof tape, glue, new stainless steel screws, or make a new ring to adapt your suction fitting to your new grating.
